Food
If you are in need of emergency food assistance, you can reach out to the NYC Human Resource Administrations Emergency FoodLine at 1-866-888-8777. They will provide you with hours of operation and directions to the nearest food pantries and community kitchens. Everyone is eligible regardless of immigration status. You can also look up the closest food pantry yourself at Get Food NYC.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income individuals and families with an EBT card that can be used to purchase eligible food. You can apply for SNAP on ACCESS HRA, a free online tool connecting eligible NYC residents to over 30 benefit programs. You can also apply in person at any of the HRA SNAP Centers.
If you need assistance filling out a SNAP application, Food Bank For New York City, the city’s largest hunger-relief organization, can help you through the process of applying. You can call Food Bank’s SNAP Call Center at (212) 894-8060, Monday – Friday 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
NYS Department of Aging Community Dining – There are about 1,000 locations across the state for meals and many kinds of social activities, for people 60 years and older. You can find more information on these locations thru NY Connect, a hotline with drop-in offices located for older adults and New Yorkers with disabilities to discover ways to remain independent at home and in their community. 1-800-342-9871. The Emerald Isle Immigration Center’s (EIIC), an organization with locations in the Bronx and Queens providing a broad range of immigration-related services, provides daily meals to local Seniors who are unable to prepare meals for themselves due to an age-related disability or illness. IDNYC is a free municipal identification card for New York City residents, ages 10 and up, IDNYC helps New Yorkers access a wide variety of services, including opening up a bankout as an undocumented New Yorker, and programs offered by the City. IDNYC cardholders also enjoy benefits and discounts offered by businesses and cultural institutions across the five boroughs, and the peace of mind that comes from having a broadly accepted government- issued photo identification.
Worker Rights
You can initiate a New York Department of Labor unpaid wages claim by filing the state’s six-page LS 223 form. Call the NY State Department of Labor office at 888-469-7365 if you have questions about the form, or visit their website www.labor.ny.gov.
If you need help in this process reach out to the Laundry Workers Center. They are a workers center that aims to combat abuses such as landlord negligence, wage theft, and hazardous and exploitative working conditions.

Financial Assistance
Mutual Aid is a multi-racial network of people and groups building support systems for people in the New York area during the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond. If you need support you can reach out to their Hotline 646-437-8080 where they will try to connect you with a partner in their network.
The New York City Human Resources Administration/Department of Social Services (HRA/DSS) is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits.
Eligible families may receive up to 60 months of federally funded cash assistance under the Temporary Aid to Needy Families Program (TANF). Single individuals without children and families who have already received cash assistance for 60 months may receive benefits under the New York State Safety Net Program. Find a center where you can apply or call 311 and ask for help with.
The Burial Assistance Office assists individuals in need of financial assistance to meet funeral expenses for a deceased low-income New York City resident.
