Description
The map below shows at risk areas of New York City for a moderate flood event. It also shows which lots have construction below ground level (i.e. basements). The data is pulled from New York City Open Data.
Use the map to identify buildings and neighborhoods at risk of flooding.
How to read this map
Flood zones are indicated in blue. Light blue areas are four inches to one foot in depth. Darker blue regions are greater than one foot of flooding. The flood contours are a modeled moderate flood scenario as detailed in this Department of Environmental Protection report.
Hint: Don't see the flood zones? Try zooming in a bit more.
The heatmap indicates the density of lots within 33 feet that have below ground level construction such as a basement. At higher zoom-levels, individual buildings with below ground level construction are marked with a dot.
A Note on Accuracy
The data is a model for pooling over four inches and does not reflect on-the-ground changes or flooded areas less than four inches.
Buildings marked on the map will not definitely flood. Instead, marked buildings are near modeled floods zones in moderate flood events.
The map certainly misses some possible flood areas. For example, the campaign office flooded in 2023, and the area is not shown on the map.
